Replace Excel for client jobs and matters

Keep the sheet for analysis if you want — but stop using it as the living list of what is open, overdue, and owed.

Why Excel becomes the practice OS

It is flexible, offline-friendly, and already on every laptop. For a solo professional it works — until status cells lag, filters break, and nobody trusts the “master” file.

The failure mode is not formulas. It is that the sheet cannot be the morning queue, the shared truth, and the capture inbox at once.

What to move first

Active clients and open engagements (title, reference, status, due date, owner).

Outstanding fees you already track in a column — so money visibility travels with the matter.

Leave historical archives in the sheet if you like. Displacement means active work lives in the practice system.

How displacement actually sticks

Import once (Engagements → Import CSV). Confirm Home shows overdue and upcoming items.

For one week, update status only in F-Practice. If someone still edits the sheet for active rows, Home will lie — and the ritual fails.

Use Capture (/) for new follow-ups so they land on an engagement instead of a new row you will forget to reconcile.

Ready to practise it?

Open the app and run the ritual — guides only work when Home is real.
